JAWORSKI RETURNING TO PBA AFTER ELECTIONS
Manila, May 17, 1998 - Basketball superstar Robert Jaworski, whose caging prowess gave him enough votes from sports fans for a sure Senate seat, will commute between the August halls of the Senate and the hardcourt of the Philippine Basketball Association.
"I intend to play again. I can attend Senate sessions and committee deliberations, after which I can go to the PBA games which are only three times a week," said the Philippines' longest-playing playing coach.
The Gordon's Gin/Ginebra playing coach might see action as early as today, Sunday, when the PBA Commissioner's Cup opening day features Jaworski's team playing Purefoods.
"I have started to run. I have to keep in shape so as not to disappoint the fans," says the 52-year- old living legend.
If and when Jaworski returns to the basketball court, he will be the first members of the Philippine Senate to play professional basketball.
He does not intend to spend all his time playing and coaching, though. He has many plans and programs that await implementation the minute he's sworn into office as an honorable senator of the Republic of the Philippines.
"I'll set the example of a good public servant. I'm coming in with a clean slate. I won't engage in patronage politics. Everything will be above board. What I am in sports, I will in public service, and more."
