PINOY BODYBUILDERS PULL OUT OF INTERNATIONAL MEETS
Manila, May 10, 1998 - The International Federation of Body Builders Phils. Inc. has decided not to take part in any international competition including the 13th Asian Games in Bangkok as part of the group's austerity measures.
"We decided not to participate in any international tournament as part of our cost-cutting measures, in order to help the country weather the current economic crisis," said IFBBPI president General Levi Macasiano.
"We must understand that this is a difficult time for all of us. I hope we can do all we can to help the country, and I hope that other national sports associations will follow this," he added.
Aside from the Asian Games in Thailand in December, the body building federation has also pulled out of the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia this month, the 34th Asian Body Building contest in Pakistan, the 32nd Southeast Asian Bodybuilding championship in Vietnam, the Asian Women's and Mixed Pairs Championship and Mr. Universe.
Local programs and competitions will continue, including the Mr. and Ms. Philippines and Mixed Pairs Bodybuilding Championship in Cebu City on April 18 and 19.
