Manila, May 6, 1998
- Six singles medallists in last month's Palarong Pambansa will see action
in the National Centennial Badminton Championships which start today at
the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
The six -- Donnie de Dios, Alex Cuevas and Gil Jackson Watts of the National Capital Region; Mia Francisco of Western Visayas; and Ana Mae Flores and Paula Lyn Obanana of Central Visayas -- are among a big group of players hoping to land berths in the national team.
De Dios, an 18-year-old De La Salle University freshman, holds the Palaro collegiate men's single's title.
Cuevas, 16, a junior at Camp Crame High School, grabbed the high school boys' singles crown from defending champion Frederick Delgado of Southern Tagalog.
Watts is an incoming Grade 6 pupil at the International School, and holds the elementary boys' singles title.
Francisco, a native of Bago City, topped the collegiate ladies' singles.
