ASPAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Twelve future golf stars fly to Thailand Friday for the 20th Asia-Pacific
Junior Golf Championships slated May 12 to 15.
The 12 are: EJ Marcelo, Paolo Gonzales, JR Tanpinco, Michael Bibat, Jenz Tecson, Christopher de Roca, Frederick Garcia, Paolo Garcia, Mikko Garcia, Jess Araneta, Paulo Paulino and Philip Ang. They were coached by multi-awarded Gerard Cantada.
Thailand Golf Association vice president and tournament director of the Asia-Pacific tournament Rae-Vadee Suwan said the 12 slots for the Philippines includes two nominees for the Doug Sanders qualifying event.
The National Golf Association of the Philippines conducted a 72-hole qualifying tournament last month at the Valley Golf Club in Antipolo to determine the Philippine team members.
The group of young players will be accompanied by their parents, who will attend to the nutritional and health requirements of the delegation with the assistance of team captain Ronald Araneta, NGAP rulesman Col. Erasmo Rivera, psychologist Wendy Araneta and Edgardo Cantada.
Ericsson Telecommunications is supporting the national team.
