NATIONAL ROCK CLIMBING TILT
IN TACLOBAN
Tacloban City, May 5, 1998
- More than 60 top climbers, male and female, will fly in from all over
the country to converge in Tacloban for the third leg of the 4th Annual
National Sports Climbing competition next week.
The stand out climbers participating in the May 13-14 contest are members of Team Power Up from Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, Iligan, Cagayan de Oro, Dumaguete and the host city of Tacloban.
The event will feature a new sports novelty called Rock Climbing, in which contestants will scale a 50-foot-high free-standing artificial rock wall on the city's Balyuan Tower.
The performances of the climbers will be monitored and used as basis for selection of members of the Philippine team which will participate in the Asian Sports Climbing Championships later this year.
Jointly sponsoring the sports event are the Department of Tourism, Bukid Outdoor Shop, Nature Unlimited and Leyte Outdoor Club, Inc.
The unique competition is expected to project and promote Tacloban City and Eastern Visayas as an adventure destination.
