NATIONAL, LOCAL ELECTION RESULTS FOR SHOWBIZ STARS
Manila, May 15, 1998 - Movie and TV stars who ran for public office in the May 11 national and local elections fared well.
The "star for all seasons" Ms. Vilma Santos and her husband Congressman Ralph Recto are winning for Lipa City mayor and Batangas Representative respectively.
Action star and Cavite Governor Bong Revilla is leading his rival with 111,383 votes against Rep. Renato Dragon's 72,563.
Actor Rey Malonzo is probably getting re-elected Caloocan City mayor, with early returns showing 6,376 votes for him and only 2,647 votes for former Mayor Macario "Boy" Asistio.
Comedian Dennis Padilla, LAKAS candidate for Councilor, is expected to come in as one of the six Councilors for the city's second district.
Action star Lito Lapid is well on his way to another term as Pampanga governor, with 86 ,482 votes against 21,440 votes for his opponent, Cielo Macapagal-Salgado who's the daughter of President Diosdado Macapagal and sister of leading vice presidential candidate Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Edu Manzano, whose votes for vice mayor of Makati City were counted despite his disqualification by the Comelec, leads his closest rival Bong Daza, husband of Miss Universe and actress Gloria Diaz.
In Quezon City, Herbert Bautista is trailing Quezon City re-electionist Mayor Mel Mathay. Mathay's running mate, actress-TV host Connie Angeles, leads as well. Many say Herbert's loss is partially due to the campaigning performed by actor Rudy Fernandez in favor of another candidate, former QC Mayor Simon.
San Juan Mayor Jinggoy Estrada, son of Vice President Joseph Estrada, is looking at another term.
Former actor Jose Mari Gonzales, father of sexy stars Margarita and Cristina, is leading the San Juan congressional race.
Senator Vicente Sotto, popular comedian and TV host, is ranking third in the senatorial race.
