CENTENNIAL THEME FOR FAMAS AWARDS NIGHT
Manila, May 2, 1998 - The most prestigious form of recognition in the field of Philippine cinematic arts will hold its 46th ceremony today, May 1. The FAMAS wards, the Philippine equivalent of the Oscars, is an awards show as eagerly awaited and anticipated by Filipinos as Americans view the Oscars.
The country's most illustrious award, the FAMAS has been the yardstick my which Philippine film excellence has been measured. T he gold statuette has been sought after by artists and technical personnel involved in the industry.
This year, the 46th FAMAS Awards becomes all the more special as it pas tribute to the Philippine Independence Centennial.
Fans of nostalgia will have a field day as the FAMAS reviews the best in Philippine cinema over the years. Veteran actors will share their recollections, with presentations aided by modern visual techniques.
In this year's ceremonies, the body will also give the first FAMAS Centennial Award to films that have expertly tackled Centennial themes. The awardees are "Damong Ligaw" and "Rizal sa Dapitan."
