FEDEX EXPANDING HUB WITH CLARK FIELD OPERATIONS
Clark Field, May 18, 1998 - Federal Express Corporation (Fedex) is expanding its operations into the Clark Development Corporation in support of its regional hub in Subic, a central operations center at the NAIA and a new installation in the Cebu International Airport.
Fedex chief economist Ting Ho explained that the expansion to Clark will cater mainly to the locators in the area plus other freight requirements near the Pampanga, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan and other regions near the former US Air Force Base.
The regional hub in Subic handles 6,000 pieces of freight per hour and another 10,000 pieces of documents per hour. It is a gateway to between 8 and 12 wide-body, all-freighter aircraft each day.
Fedex occupies 90,000 square feet of space near the former US Navy airstrip which is now used for commercial operations. Fedex has 311 staffers in Subic.
The Subic regional hub is one of two in Asia; the other is in Japan.
The Subic hub handles airfreight and documents connecting to all major trade centers in Asia and the Pacific region. The regional hub handles next-day deliveries to all of North America from Seoul, Kaohsiung, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Cebu and Manila. It also handles deliveries to and from the US West Coast and Penang, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Cebu and Manila.
