PANGASINAN ECO-TOURISM PROGRAM LAUNCHED
Dagupan City, April 26, 1998 - The Department of Tourism and Makalikasan conducted on-the- spot inspection and discussions with local officials of San Fabian and Dagupan City on the status of endangered species in Pangasinan province.
The Makalikasan group visited protected marine sanctuaries in Pangasinan to study how its natural resources were being affected by the illegal trade on endangered species.
Makalikasan is an organization of concerned personnel from the public and private sectors who promote the protection, preservation and conservation of endangered species. Among the fauna in its list of priorities are capiz, trumpet shell, helmet shell, giant clams and corals.
Makalikasan supports the Tourism Department's thrust of promoting the protection, preservation and conservation of natural resources and assets with tourist attractions.
Thus, the project primarily seeks to promote sustainable development through responsible tourism and foster travel movement through eco-tourism.
