CENTENNIAL SUMMER CARAVAN TO NORTHERN LUZON
Manila, April 20, 1998 - The Department of Tourism, in cooperation with REACT Philippines and Activity Asia Association, is offering a family journey this summer which combines fun, sun, sea, and active participation in the celebration of a hundred years of Philippine independence.
The tours are a project of "Kannaadiwan Ti Amianan Movement" highlighted by the Northern Centennial Caravan: a Hundred Miles of Freedom. The Caravan is a four-day cultural and recreational trek across the five provinces of Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte and Abra from May 28 to June 31.
It is a journey that will celebrate and honor the trails of freedom taken by the Northern Filipinos, and will take the participants to key cities and towns of historical and cultural interest.
There will be liturgical celebrations in churches with architectures that boast of a glorious past, in Manaoag, Pangasinan and Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Tour joiners will participate in memorial ceremonies for local heroes and heroines, with mini- lectures at sites where historical events occurred : Pindangan Ruins, Gabriela Silang Hills.
Several festive pageants and cultural presentations are being readied by towns along the route.
The caravan will be hosted for fiestas, town plaza discos and beach festivities, including a stay in the famous Pagudpod beach in Ilocos Norte.
The caravan and tour promises to be a unique experience, rewarding for both fun-seekers and lovers of Philippine history and culture.
