NATURE PARKS CLOSED BY FOREST FIRE THREAT
Manila, April 18, 1998 - Public nature parks and other protected areas which are at high risk to forest fires have been ordered closed to the general public for activities like picnic, sightseeing, mountain climbing and camping.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued the advisory and placed under close watch the following: Mount Pulag in Cordillera, Subic Watershed Forest Reserve, Bataan National Park, Mount Arayat, Subic-Bataan Park, Mangyan Heritage Natural Park, Quezon Natural Park, Mount Canlaon Natural Park, Bicol Natural Park, Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park and the Samar Island Forest Reserve.
DENR Secretary Victor Ramos said the parks should be strictly monitored as they are all at high risk to forest fires because of the nature of their vegetative cover.
