FILMFEST TO MARK PHILIPPINE CENTENNIAL
Manila, April 17, 1998 - Thirty award-winning Filipino films will be shown simultaneously in Metro Manila theaters from June 17 to 23, when the metropolis holds the Philippine Centennial Film Festival.
Former Vice President Salvador Laurel, Philippine Centennial Commission chairman, has appointed former press secretary and now Movie and Television Review and Classification Board head Jesus Sison as chairman of the committee to oversee the festival.
Also in the group are Luis Morales, director Cirio Santiago, movie producer Robbie Tan, Philippine Motion Picture Producers' Association president Manuel Nuqui and Nick de Ocampo of Mowelfund.
The festival will carry the theme "History and Cinema: The Role of Cinema in Shaping the Filipino Nation."
Among the films to be shown is a documentary on the life and times of General Emilio Aguinaldo, titled "Magdalo" produced by Premiere Entertainment Productions.
Other movies include "Agila," Manila by Night," "Minsa'y May Isang Gamu-gamo" and "Noli Me Tangere."
The filmfest will move to the cities of Cebu and Davao after its one-week run in Manila.
