CENTENNIAL DINNER IN GUAM
Agana, Guam, April 14, 1998 - Businessman Emelio Uy, operator of the National Office Supply chain of stores, was named chairman of the Centennial Movement by former Vice President Salvador Laurel, Chairman of the Philippine Centennial Commission.
The appointment was announced during induction ceremonies of the Filipino Community of Guam at the Pacific Star Hotel, during which Uy was also inducted as FCG president. The association, established 44 years ago, is the umbrella organization of 65 Filipino groups on the island.
The induction-dinner gathered leaders from the entire Filipino community of Guam, as well as government officials headed by Guam Governor Carl Gutierrez.
Aside from Chairman Laurel, guests that evening were popular entertainers Marco Sison and Chiqui Pineda who flew in from Manila to perform well-loved sentimental favorites.
Inducted officials include: Rene Quintana - 1st VP, Bert Jurinario - 2nd VP, Julieta Babasa - 3rd VP, Ofeli Muniz - secretary, Belinda Amparo - asst. secretary, Rolly Angeles - treasurer, Aurelio Solidum - asst. treasurer, Clarito Viray - auditor, Chet Neri - PRO and peace officers Satur 21 Benavides and James Robinson.
