FOREIGNERS JOIN ANILAO-PUERTO GALERA KAYAK MARATHON
Batangas City, April 11, 1998 - A major marine sports festival this month will draw attention to the tourism potentials of the Verde Island Passage between Batangas and Mindoro.
The Anilao-Puerto Galera Challenge '98 reels off from April 17 to 19 in Anilao, Mabini town, and will take water-sports enthusiasts through a gruelling kayak marathon on the challenging Verde Passage.
The race is cut into three stages covering a total distance of 44 kilometers. There's the Anilao-Pisa phase on Maricaban Island, the Pisa-White Beach race on Puerto Galera and the White Beach to Laguna Beach run. Both Anilao and Puerto Galera are premiere Philippine marine sanctuaries and diving spots.
In addition to the kayak events, other highlights of the sports festival are the Cutty Sark Windsurf Fun, Eagle Point Underwater Orienteering, Gatorade Aquathlon and the Portofino Bath Tub Race.
An aquathlon will also be staged, which is the water equivalent of the triathlon and consists of fin swim, paddle on kayak and race on land.
