LAS PINAS DEVELOPED FOR TOURISM
Las Pinas City, April 3, 1998 - The atmosphere of the Philippine Centennial is alive in Las Pinas City, where the stretch of national road from Manuyo to Zapote is being transformed into a century-old town reminiscent of Vigan, Ilocos Sur.
Rep. Manny Villar, author RA 8003 which aims to establish a "historical corridor" in the city, said the project will boost the tourism potentials of Las Pinas, as well as make a viable contribution to the celebration of the country's 100 years of independence by helping instill cultural pride in Filipinos who come to visit.
"Our vision is to make this restoration project the cradle of old traditions and tomorrow's industries. This being the Centennial year, it is timely to revive places which played an important role in shaping history," Villar said.
Tourists will enter the town through a bamboo-styled arch in Manuyo, which marks the beginning of a walk through Spanish-style houses, centuries-old salt beds, the Zapote Bridge and the Gabaldon Hall which is one of the few such school buildings that survived World War II.
