YOUNG ARTISTS' CENTENNIAL COMPETITIONS
Manila, April 3, 1998 - The National Music Competitions for Young Artists Foundation (NAMCYA) has special activities to celebrate the Philippine Centennial, with the theme "Kalayaan ng Diwang Pilipino."
National Music Week, November 21 to 28, will see the holding of the National Music Competitions at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. For the Centennial Year celebrations, the categories will include: Children's Choir, Piano, Solo Winds, Chamber Music Wind Ensemble, Elementary School Rondalla and Family Ensemble (vocal, instrumental, chamber).
Contestants will be required to perform repertories that will include major Filipino works. For this year's competitions, contest pieces have been commissioned from Lucio San Pedro, Alfredo Buenaventura, Chino Toledo, Jonas Baes and Ramon Santos.
During the regional competitions in October, solo and group performers of traditional music for string and gong instruments will also be auditioned for the three special concerts and workshops that will be presented during National Music Week.
The revised rules and guidelines will be made available and circulated through national publications sometime in April.
