ZAMBALES NEARBY TOWNS TOURISM AREAS
Subic Bay Freeport, April 2, 1998 - In a meeting with the Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SBFCCI), chairman Richard Gordon said that the nearby towns of Zambales could be promoted as tourism areas and Bulacan, which is on the opposite side of Subic, an excellent site for industry.
Zambales is home to many beautiful beaches, lush forests and friendly folk who would likely welcome the idea of being a tourist site, while Bataan has long been planned to be a future site for more foreign investments because of its strategic location and proximity to existing roads.
The SBMA chairman also said that part of the development plan of Subic Bay Freeport is the expansion of its gates to Olongapo City and adjacent towns, a scheme that will bring industries in the freeport zone closer to nearby provinces.
Recently, the Asian Deevelopment Bank extended a loan to complete the Subic Bay municipal development project upgrading infrastructures and basic urban services in seven Subic Bay area municipalities to usher in increased livelihood due to their proximity to the freeport zone which is the major center of economic development in Central Luzon.
The scope and objectives of the project are to reduce poverty and improve living conditions in these areas. 35% of the area are poor. The project areas are Olongapo City, municipalities of Subic, Castillejos and San Marcelino in Zambales, municipalities of Dinalupihan, Hermosa and Morong in Bataan province.
