PBA NATIONWIDE BROADCAST VIA SATELLITE ILLEGAL
Manila, April 29, 1998 - Bad news for basketball fans in the provinces -- the National Telecommunications Commission has ruled that the transmission of PBA games nationwide via satellite is illegal.
PBA games are broadcast by Vintage Enterprises, which has a contract with Channel 13. The games are aired nationwide via satellite using the facilities of the Transpacific Broadcast International Group International Inc. operating inside Clark Special Economic Zone.
The NTC said the TGBI has violated the radio and telecommunications laws of the Philippines for having no franchise, permit or authority from the NTC to provide or transmit signals beyond the Clark zone.
The NTC acted on a complaint filed by Channel 13 and by the Domestic Satellite Philippines Inc. (Domsat).
