PRESIDENT RAMOS GETS WORLD BOXING COUNCIL AWARD
Pasay City, April 27, 1998 - President Ramos was awarded the prestigious World Boxing Council Chief of State Award at the close of the 36th Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation annual convention at the Heritage Hotel.
The President received the award from Games and Amusements Board chairman Dominador Cepeda Jr. before the delegates at the closing rites of the 3-day conference.
Cepeda represented WBC chairman Jose Sulaiman, who was undergoing surgery at the time.
"President Ramos is the first Filipino head of state to receive this award from the most prestigious wold boxing body," Cepeda said.
The Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation also presented the President with a citation for his contributions in boosting the sport in the region.
President Ramos is known as the country's foremost professional boxing fan and supporter.
