54 RP CYCLISTS ENTER MARLBORO CENTENNIAL TOUR
Cebu City , April 16, 1998 - Fifty four Filipino cyclists composing the Philippine team and eight regional squads will attempt to prevent a repeat by Wong Kam Po, the 1997 Marlboro Tour defending champion from Hong Kong .
The Marlboro Centennial Tour kicks off Wednesday, April 15, with a 3.9-kilometer race through Osmena Blvd. and Jones Blvd.
The rider with the best time in the Wednesday prologue will wear the overall leader's yellow jersey when the race begins Thursday.
"The Filipino cyclists are more prepared this year, " said Tour organizer Cornelio Padilla Jr. "All of them kept training for the whole year. And they were all enthusiastic during our training camp."
The Philippine team boasts of former Marlboro Tour champions Victor Espiritu, Renato Dolosa and Carlo Guieb, along with Arnel Querimit, Enrique Domingo, Carlo Jasul and Edwin Davadilla.
