HUNDREDS TURN OUT FOR PBL YOUTH TRYOUT
Makati City, April 12, 1998 - More than 400 aspirants filled up applications for the try-out of the Philippine Basketball League's under-18 category which will be held on April 18 at the Makati Coliseum.
Applicants coming from as far as Cebu, Mindoro and Tuguegarao lined up for the tryouts, to join the league which kicks off May 9.
"I am very happy with the response, and I believe this program will help discover, develop and enhance the skills of these young cagers who may soon serve the various national teams," Said PBL Commissioner Yeng Guiao.
The only setback was the average height of the applicants, most of whom are only about 5'9" or 5'10".
The coaches of seven PBL member teams will screen the applicants, who have to be born in 1980 or later. Twelve players will be chosen for each team.
