EVERYONE'S WELCOME TO THE "RUFFA CHAT '98"
Internet News, April 30, 1998 - The PHILIPPINE HEADLINE NEWS ONLINE (PHNO) (http://www.newsflash.org/) and the FILIPINO TODAY Newspaper (http://www.interlog.com/~filtoday/) are inviting Ruffa Gutierrez' cyberspace fans to Ruffa's annual Internet Chat session on Saturday, May 9, 1998 from 11:00 pm to 12:00 midnight (Eastern Time)- equivalent to 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm Pacific Time. For Manila-based chatters, it is Sunday, May 10, 1998 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. If you can not join the chat session, you can e-mail your questions to PHNO at: ruffa@newsflash.org.
Ms. Gutierrez had her first Internet chat session with her fans on the Net last May 31, 1997. She used to be a chat addict but has since cut down on her chatting time "not because I don't enjoy chatting anymore, but because most of my time is spent on answering fan mails. I don't believe in hiring a secretary to answer my mail for me. I believe in being personal. I owe a bit of my time and effort to my supporters who have been by my side through thick and thin," Ruffa told PHNO.
Transcript of her 1997 chat session can be found at: http://www.interlog.com/~filtoday/chat/rgchat.htm
Ruffa is the daughter of Eddie Gutierrez (matinee idol of the 60's) and movie actress Anabelle Rama. She has won numerous beauty titles including the 1993 Miss World Second Princess and is still being inundated by offers to represent the Philippines in other international beauty pageant. Ruffa says, "I admit there is a very tempting offer from the Bb. Pilipinas Executive Committee but everything is still up in the air. As long as I haven't signed a formal agreement, nothing is definite yet."
She has decided to keep a low profile on the movie front for now "because bold/sexy is the present trend and I have decided to concentrate my efforts in producing telemovies for GMA-7" using her own production outfit, Royale Era Entertaiment. 'ANG BABAE SA LOOB NG CAKE', is her production's fourth telecine and will be shown on April 26. Aside from being a mainstay of S.O.P. and being semi-regular at EAT BULAGA, Ruffa also hosted the Film Academy of the Philippines Awards Night held last April 25, 1998 at the U.P. Theater.
At the moment, Ruffa is busy campaigning for her close friends and relatives for the May 11 election. Uncle Eddie Rama is running for Congressman in Butuan City while showbiz friends Jinggoy Estrada and Edu Manzano are running for mayor in San Juan and vice mayor in Makati respectively. Ruffa claims that "I am not charging them a single centavo for my services. I will campaign for them because I believe in their platform of government and that they will be excellent leaders of ourland."
Despite her hectic showbiz schedule, Ruffa will find time to do charities. She says, "working with charitable institutions is nothing new to me. Through the years, I've worked with Operation Hunger: South Africa, Caritas Manila, Children's International (based in Los Angeles) and UNICEF. It's something that gives me fulfillment and something I enjoy doing."
"Because God has been very good to me, I'd like to share my blessings with my less fortunate brothers and sisters. As I've said in the past, I'd like to be of service to my fellowmen so I decided on putting up my own non-stock, non-profit organization. There will be a formal launching on my birthday in June but everything is still in the planning stage."
This year's chat session, dubbed "RUFFA CHAT 1998", is Ruffa's way of celebrating the first anniversary of her homepage at http://www.ruffa.com/ with her fans on the Net.
Ruffa's homepage was designed by Ronnie Miranda of Storm Visualization & Imaging Inc. (http://www.stormviz.com/) but Ruffa provided all the write-ups, comments, information, and pictures. Ronnie says "in terms of design, her general direction was to make it a catchy but fun web site. Ruffa came up with the title to her web site- CRAZY, SEXY, COOL. And that became my starting point for the design concept." Ronnie has designed homepages for several celebrities including Charlene Gonzalez, Mikee Cojuangco, Rachel Alejandro, Dina Bonnevie, Sharmaine Arnaiz, Gelli de Belen, Pops Fernandez and Zsa Zsa Padilla.
