SHARON NOT GETTING VOTES FOR MOM AND BRODS?
Pasay City, April 22, 1998 - Sharon Cuneta's fans still crowd political rallies to wait for her and shout out her name. But they leave after Sharon sings and before Sharon's Mom and brothers could deliver campaign speeches.
Sharon, who returned to the Philippines last Friday, said her brief homecoming was to "fulfill daughterly and sisterly duties" which means to campaign for her mother and brothers.
Several newspaper reports indicate that Sharon's magic may not be translating into votes for the members of her family.
At a campaign rally recently, Sharon sang two songs to the crowd, which responded by chanting her name. However, when Sharon finished her songs and left, the crowd walked away and Mrs. Cuneta was left with no other choice but to forego her campaign speech.
Mrs. Elaine Cuneta is running for a seat in Congress, while Sharon's brothers are aspiring for various elective positions in Pasay City. Cesar, a full brother of Sharon, is runing for councilor, just like her half-brother Leonides, also known as "Boy McNutt." Half-brother Eduardo is running for vice mayor.
Mayor Pablo Cuneta, who is now 88, is barred from seeking re-election and is also physically incapable, due to old age and ill health, of mounting a political campaign.
