RUFFA IS RP'S ENTRY TO MISS GLOBE

Quezon City, April 21, 1998 - The Binibining Pilipinas Charities headquartered in the Araneta compound has reportedly decided to send Ruffa Gutierrez to represent the Philippines in this year's Miss Globe beauty contest. Last year's Miss Globe pageant was held in Istanbul, Turkey. This year's ceremonies will be held in a still-unnamed European city.

Ruffa was the Bb. Pilipinas Charities' choice to replace Tisha Silang, who had to surrender her Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown and title for failing to meet residency and citizenship requirements.

Ruffa reportedly turned down the offer to go to Hawaii as the Philippines' bet for Miss Universe because she was worried about the adverse publicity. The title went instead to first runner-up Jewel May Lobaton, who is now in Honolulu to compete in the Miss Universe pageant.
