(PMPC) STAR AWARDS
Manila, April 7, 1998 - The 1998 PMPC Star Awards was held at the University of the Philippines Film Center last March 8, 1998. Late but not least is this full report:
Zsa Zsa Padilla was the winner of the Movie Actress of the Year award in her role in the film "Batang PX" where she played the role of a mother to an Amerasian boy. Zsa won over previous awardees Nora Aunor in the film "Babae" (Woman), Sharon Cuneta in "Nang Iniwan Mo Ako" (When You Left Me), Vilma Santos in "Hanggang Ngayon Ika'y Minamahal" (Still Loving You Until Now) and from stiffest competitor Maricel Soriano in the movie, "Nasaan Ang Puso" (Where is the Heart).
Movie Actor of the Year went to 16-year-old Patrick Garcia who dramatically protrayed the role of the Amerasian boy in the film "Batang PX". Patrick won over veteran awardees Christopher de Leon, Ricky Davao, Richard Gomez and Albert Martinez. Albert Martinez was the expected Movie Actor of the Year winner for his role as Dr Jose Rizal in the movie "Dapitan", the movie that garnered tons of awards and is the winner as Movie of the Year.
Rosanna Roces won as the Female Star of the Night. Isko Moreno won as Male Star of the Night. "Batang PX" won Original Screenplay award by Javier Reyes and Best Editing by Danny Gloria. Best Musical is won by non-other, Ryan Cayabyab for his score in the controversial movie "Ligaya".
Best Supporting Actor was Nonie Buencamino for "Milagros", Best Supporting Actress is Maricel Laxa for "Minsan Lamang Magmahal" (Only Love Once), Best Child Actor went to Tom Taus, Jr for the movie "Lahar", New Movie Actor went to Marvin Agustin in "Flames, The Movie", and New Movie Actress to Mylene Dizon in Calvento Files, The Movie.
