COMELEC BANS BONG REVILLA MOVIE
Manila, April 3, 1998 - Actor Bong Revilla, who is running for re-election as Cavite Governor, claims the Commission on Elections has been misled by his political rivals into stopping the nationwide showing of his film "Ben Delubyo."
Revilla claims the movie was shown from March 18-27 in Cavite, and therefore did not violate any rule on electioneering. March 27 was the start of the 45-day ban on the use of such propaganda as movies to get votes.
Revilla said he is confident the Comelec will soon decide in his favor. The poll body ruling was in response to a petition filed by Rep. Renato Dragon, the LAMMP candidate for governor of Cavite. Revilla is running under the administration party LAKAS.
Unless Revilla is able to convince the Comelec, the movie cannot be shown anywhere int he Philippines until after May 11, the date of the national elections.
"They're running scared because media and the people of Cavite have been exposing their widespread land-grabbing operations and other abuses," Revilla said.
