RP PHONE LINES DOUBLED

Manila, April 25, 1998 - The country's telephone density has improved to 8.06 lines for every 100 Filipinos in 1997, reported the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC).

This is almost double the 1996 teledensity of 4.66 for every 100 Filipinos and has surpassed the 7.6 line-target of the NTC. The government wants to further increase this figure to 9.78 lines by year-end.
