CLARK AIRPORT TOURISM AND TRADE POTENTIALS
Clark Field, April 12, 1998 - The Clark International Airport is not only geared to become a world-class premiere airport in the Asia Pacific Region in the 21st century, but can also be the region's distribution and aviation service center.
General Romeo David, Clark Development Corporation president, pointed out Clark's role in giving the Philippines a competitive edge int he global race for economic progress.
"There already are billion dollar investments that have been attracted by our plan to develop and operate Clark as a regional distribution and aviation service center," David said. "Parallel runways with a world-class passenger terminal and modern cargo facilities will provide the necessary airside and landside capacity."
He called for the early upgrading of Clark's airport facilities to meet the expected rise in passenger and cargo traffic in the Asia region.
"In anticipation of increased travel and air shipments, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Japan, Thailand and even Macau have built or started building new airports to service giant, wide-bodied jumbo jets to meet the challenges of market forces," David explained.
Currently, business and industrial estates within the 2,200-hectare airport site are being developed to maintain high value property and incorporate business and recreational centers.
