INTERNET COMPANY TIES UP WITH PLDT
Manila, April 2, 1998 - The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co (PLDT) has teamed up with Infonet Services Corp, a leading global networking service provider which offered the latest Internet-based technology.
Infonet director for Global Internet Service (GIS), Lee Bykerk said that PLDT will have exclusive rights to market the company's comprehensive set of Internet services designed for multinational corporations. Infonet subscribers could have the advantage of global Internet dial access in 32 countries where they could send information through fax, electronic mail and paging with consistent quality, high reliability and performance and without the large expense in long distance calls.
Unlike other Internet service providers which depend on a consortium of partners which often have different interfaces, standards and billing methods, GIS will give users identical access procedures everywhere.
Southeast Asia Infonet regional manager, Dan Halloran said they believe there is a strong market in the Philippines for GIS even as he refused to disclose their target market share.
"We are priced competitively so we are sure that we can have a fair share of the market with the help of PLDT," he said.
