SOUTH LUZON TOLLWAY EXTENSION TO BOOST TOURISM
Pagbilao, Quezon, March 30, 1998 - Travel time from the entrance of the South Luzon Tollway to Lucena City will soon be reduced from the present three hours to only one hour, with the extension of the SLT to Quezon province.
President Ramos earned the gratitude and confidence of Quezon, Laguna and Batangas residents as well as travellers to Bicol and the Samar-Leyte region with his decision to push through with the extension of the SLT to Pagbilao, Quezon despite strong opposition from environmentalist and cause-oriented groups.
Ramos assured oppositors that the project will not adversely affect the environment as the road extension will not pass through the slopes of the legendary Mount Banahaw.
Quezon Governor Eduardo Rodriguez is optimistic that the extension of the expressway to Pagbilao will accelerate the economic development of Quezon Province and increase the number of tourists to its famous beaches, centuries-old churches and towns. Attendance to Quezon province's internationally-known harvest festivals will also definitely swell when the road projects are finished.
The extension will also greatly reduce travel time to the Bicol Region, as well as to Region 8 Samar and Leyte provinces) that are linked to Luzon through the Matnog-Allen Ferry and the San Juanico Bridge.
