BULACAN MARKS CENTENNIAL WITH KITE FESTIVAL
San Miguel, Bulacan, March 29, 1998 - As part of thee Centennial celebration in the historic town of San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan, the town's Centennial Committee is holding a kite festival today, aptly titled "Patimpalak at Pista ng Saranggolahan para sa Sentinaryo."
The event will be held at the Oval Grounds of the Central Elementary School in San Miguel.
Kite Association of the Philippines president Orly Ongkingco said the traditions of kite-making and kite-flying have always been deeply ingrained in the Philippine culture even before the arrival of Spanish colonizers. In San Miguel de Mayumo, the tradition lives on as both children and adults continue to enjoy kite flying and consider it part of the recreational genre.
The festival will be a whole day affair with various activities and categories. The contest is open to all.
