TRAVEL TAX EXEMPTION FOR TRAVELERS IN BIMP-EAGA
Malacanang, March 27, 1998 - President Ramos yesterday extended up to March 2000 the grant of travel tax exemption to all passengers by air or sea originating from all international ports in Mindanao to any destinations within the BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Philippines-East ASEAN Growth Area).
Through Memorandum Order 469 dated March 24, the Chief Executive said the extension of the travel tax exemption will help sustain and accelerate the economic development in Mindanao.
To be exempted, a traveler must secure a Travel Tax Exemption Certificate from the Philippine Tourism Authority.
The President issued the exemption upon the request of Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Jesus Dureza.
According to Presidential Management Staff Chief Demetrio Ignacio, Jr., the travel tax exemption granted originally on March 1, 1995, was valid for two years.
