CENTENNIAL PRESIDENTS BALL IN TORONTO SET FOR MARCH 28
Toronto, Ontario, Canada, March 16, 1998 - The Centennial '98 Presidents Ball, one of several community Centennial projects organized and presented by the Philippine Independence Day Celebration (PIDC '98) officials this year is all set for a big 100-years-gala event on March 28, 1998 starting at 6 pm at Toronto's oldest and most prestigious hotel, the Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. The big dance is being held at the hotel's Concert Hall.
The Presidents Ball is chaired by Dr Vicky Santiago who appeared on the Toronto's Filipino TV show, Mann Nacario's Philippine Sundae, at last Thursday's 2-pm show on CFMT, Cable 47 and was repeated on Saturday at the 10 am show. She proclaimed the formal invitation to all Filipino associations in Ontario. "The Presidents Ball is being held to honor the Presidents of the Filipino associations in Ontario. All Filipinos in the communities and their friends are invited and we hope will come to join us at the Presidents Ball," Vicky said.
What a great time to honor these untiring silent Presidents. An event that can only be repeated after another 100 years. The Presidents Ball's committee has welcomed some 30 Presidents and rerpesentatives of various community organizations who will be the main feature of the gala night and are the participants in the traditional Rigodon de Honor dance. An announcement of the names of the presidents, their escorts and representatives at a grand entrance will open the program at 6:45 pm on March 28.
Tickets are $75 per person. Barong Tagalog and Mestiza Dress are requested for the attire. There will be dinner, dancing, and exciting group and individual performances in the Centennial program for the evening. The Philippine Independence Day Celebration (PIDC '98) is the group of Philippine Centennial Movement of the Toronto Chapter. Elected President this year is Norma Carpio. The Over-All Chairman is Dr Francisco Portugal. Vice-Chairman is Dr Victoria Santiago. Other heads of the committees are: Tessie Jew-Fund Raising; Filipino TODAY's publisher Antonio Cruz, Jr-Public affairs; Edgar Adan-Administration; Agnes Miranda-Centennial Pageant Coordinator; Danny Dominguez-Comptroller/Auditor; Cora de la Cruz-Government Affairs; In the Advisory Board are: Mann Nacario, Roland Chan, Baby de Guzman and Dr Jun de Villa.
Several projects for the Centennial celebrations of the PIDC '98 and their chairpersons are:
"Handog Sa Bayan" (A Gift To The Nation) chaired by Jun Cruz. This celebration will feature a donation of 100 brand new computers to various schools, municipalities and other institutions in different parts of the Philipines. This is also a brainchild of the chairman, Jun Cruz in conjunction with the celebration of 100 years of Philippine Independence.
