ASIANA AIRLINES WANTS MORE MANILA-SEOUL FLIGHTS
Manila, March 15, 1998 - Despite the regional economic crisis, Asiana Airlines recorded a phenomenal freight traffic growth of 40% in passenger traffic and 30% in freight volume in its Manila-Seoul route. The success has prompted Asiana Airlines to seek additional frequencies between the two cities.
Asiana opened its Manila office only four years ago, and now flies six times weekly to Seoul, plus twice weekly for all-cargo freighter flights. Most of the cargo is composed of Korean appliances and spare parts and Filipino export garments and foodstuff.
Recently, President Ramos commended Asiana Airlines for its contributions to the Philippines' modernization and globalization efforts. On the airline's 10th anniversary, President Ramos said Asiana Airlines had helped connect Asian economies toward greater regional stability and progress.
The airline has made international flights a campaign for impoverished children. Its "Change for Good Campaign" in 1994 raised funds for the United Nations Children's Fund. In 1997, Asiana collected $250,000 for the medical needs of North Korean children.
