BULACAN MANSIONS TO HOUSE CENTENNIAL GUESTS
Malolos, Bulacan, March 15, 1998 - Mansions and ancestral homes of rich and prominent families in Bulacan will serve as lodging places for visitors who will witness the Centennial rites celebrations on June 12 at the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos.
One of those homes offered voluntarily belongs to Senator Blas Ople. Acting Vice Governor Raul Ople, the senator's son, is making representations with the Sanguniang Panlalawigan with a scheme that will solve the lodging problem of visitors of the provincial government.
Bulacan has no first class hotels and lodging facilities, prompting the provincial government to act on anticipated accommodations problems for the Centennial festivities period.
As an alternative, a committee at the provincial council will be created to identify temporary places to serve as lodging for tourists and other visitors. Among those to be listed are homes of prominent families which are hardly used by owners.
Ople pointed out that it is too late to start building lodging facilities for the June celebration, the top attraction of which is the Barasoain Church, where the Malolos Constitution was crafted by the First Malolos Congress, which led to the declaration of independence on June 12, 1898.
The Malolos Church has undergone several renovations and restorations by the National Historical Commission.
