CEBU MBA TEAM MOSTLY HOMEGROWN
Manila, March 26, 1998 - Except for 2 Fil-Americans, the Cebu Gems, of the new Metropolitan Basketball Association composed purely of homegrown local talents.
From their young owners to the coach and players, the Gems are all Cebuanos! They have no known superstar in their fold, but watch out for their exciting players like forward Donald Hontiveros and guard Stephen Padilla who are potential superstars according to coach Jun Tan, the former Ron Jacobs prodigy at Northern Consolidated, who himself is a Cebuano.
Adding glamor to the squad is the presence of Fil-American Robert Duat who played for Chowking in the PBL and Chris Mendoza a 6'5" standout from Venecia high school in California.
The lineup includes: Rudy Enterina, 6-0, guard; Larry Villanil, 6-2, forward; Michael Almonte, 6-3, forward; Leody Garcia, 6-3, forward; Donald Hontiveros, 6-2, forward; Michael Manigo, 5-10, guard; Jun Montalbo, 6-5, center; Stephen Padilla, 5-10, guard; Marlon Piodo, 6-4, forward; Nilo Quirante, 6-4, center; Aldrin Ocanada, 6-2, forward; Robert Duat, 6-3, forward; Chris Mendoza, 6-5, center.
