MEAGER LONDON PURSE DISAPPOINTS ESPINOSA
Manila, March 24, 1998 - Luisito Espinosa is having second thoughts about a title bout in London which carries the same purse as a non-title fight.
"That does not seem right," Espinosa said. "Why should a non-title fight carry the same prize money, when I am staking my crown in the title bout?"
Espinosa is scheduled to face Welshman Steve Robinson in May.
"We have to convince the promoters that this fight is a new project considering that Espinosa is staking his crown," said Luisito's manager Joe Koizumi.
Koizumi said he will do everything to push the fight since he Manchester exposure of Espinosa will generate interest to a worldwide audience and will catch the attention of World Boxing Organization featherweight champion Prince Naseem Hamed.
"As much as possible, Espinosa must fight in London," Koizumi said. "Englishmen want to see him personally."
