PUMAREN QUITS BASKETBALL FOR GOVT POST
Quezon City, March 22, 1998 - Franz Pumaren, point guard of Mobiline, announced his retirement from professional basketball to devote full time to public service. He made the decision despite a very tempting and profitable offer from another basketball team.
Pumaren has been a Councilor of Quezon City's District III for many years. He started his public service career as barangay official.
As Councilor, he was the main author and sponsor of a local law providing for tax incentives for school and civic work fund raising activities. He also passed a measure giving the city more teeth against all sorts of scalping activities.
Quezon City Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista praised Pumaren's record. "It is a well known fact that Franz has been spending his earnings and bonuses is pro basketball to facilitate the delivery of basic services like electricity and water to depressed areas," Bautista said.
Pumaren has also conducted sports clinics, tournaments and free medical and dental services regularly in his district.
