RP CENTENNIAL DREAM TEAM
Manila, March 6, 1998 - National Philippine basketball coachTim Cone, last month, named 18 candidates for the 12 players of the Philippine team. The dream team will go for the elusive gold in the 1998 Asian Games set in Bangkok, Thailand in December.
In the list of the 18 candidates for the final selection, headed by the three top players Alvin Patrimonio, Marlou Aquino, and Johnny Abarrientos are Rene Hawkins, Jr, Jojo Lastimosa and Kenneth Suremdes from Alaska Milk; Jerry Codinera and Edward Joseph Feihl of Purefoods Carne Norte; Vince Hizon of Gordon's Gin, Victor Pablo of Formula Shell; Nelson Asaytono and Rodericko Racela of San Miguel Beer; Andrew John Seigle and Jeffrey Cariaso of Mobiline; Dennis Espino and Zandro Limpot, Jr of Sta Lucia Realty; and Vergel Meneses and Bonel Balingit of Pop Cola.
Team coach Cone will be assisted by Vincent "Chot" Reyes and Eduard "Dong" Vergeire. Managing the team will be Joaqui Trillo of Alaska Milk and of course lending main support is PBA Commissioner Emilio P. Bernardino, Jr.
Already the team is scheduled
to play in a Taipei Invitational Tournament in August. At the coming Third
Conference, after Cone has announced the final 12 members, the RP Dream Team
will compete as a separate unit in the Governor's Cup which will be the
last lap of their quest for the Bangkok Gold.
