ABS-CBN EDUCATIONAL SHOW, INTERNATIONAL AWARDEE

Manila, March 29, 1998 - "Bayani" is an ABS-CBN educational TV program which features lives and heroic deeds of national and contemporary heroes, as essayed by the country's top performers supported by promising child talents Angelo Cometa and Mara Babor.

"Bayani" was chosen as a finalist in the 18th Prix Jeunesse International, regarded as the premier worldwide festival for excellence in children's television.

The news was announced during the Second World Summit on Television for children held in London recently, when delegates were informed of the acceptance of the episode on Juan Luna to the final screening. The entry belongs to the 7-12, non-fiction category.

The awarding ceremonies are set for June 1998 in Munich.

Now on its third year, "Bayani" merited a compulsory viewing mandate for all public elementary school pupils nationwide from the Department of Education, Culture and Sports.

"Bayani" is meant to inculcate among its viewers a deep sense of pride in their national identity, culture and heritage.
