CHARLIE DAVAO GETS 12 YEARS OVER SALE OF BROD'S CARS
Pasig City, March 29, 1998 - Veteran character actor Charlie Davao was meted a maximum of 12 years in prison for forging his late brother's signature to possess three vehicles 10 years ago.
Davao was sued by singer Carmen Soriano, widow of Dr. Robert Dabao, brother of Charlie. Soriano alleged that Charlie fraudulently assumed ownership of the three husbands bought by her husband before and after their wedding.
The vehicles: a Mercedes Benz, a Toyota bus and an Isuzu pick-up, were entrusted to Robert and Charlie's mother for safekeeping in the Philippines while Carmen and Dr. Dabao lived in Los Angeles.
Shortly after her husband died in 1988, Soriano came back to the Philippines and learned that the vehicles were already registered under Charlie's name, through 3 absolute deeds of sale allegedly executed by Dr. Dabao before his death. The widow was able to prove that her husband's signature on the document had been falsified.
