JOMARI TO ADOPT AIKO'S CHILD
Manila, March 28, 1998 - The baby that Jomari Yllana and Aiko Melendez will have in late September or early October will be surnamed Melendez in the birth certificate because of the new Family Code's provisions on illegitimate children.
But Jomari wants the baby to carry his name, which could only be possible if he adopts the child legally. Jolted by Aiko's pregnancy into making mature decisions, Jomari, 21, consulted his lawyer about adopting his yet-to-be-born child.
Jomari has accepted the fact that he and Aiko have to wait for Aiko to turn 25 in two and a half years before they can get married. Aiko's mom Elsie is against their marriage which could not happen without parental consent till Aiko turns 25.
Jomari thinks their baby is a girl. Aiko's favorite food items these days are mansanitas and sineguelas, which are not yet in season. Jomari has had to drive all the way to Cavite to find the fruits.
