Makati City, March 18, 1998 - Actor Edu Manzano vows that he will not quit his show business career no matter what happens in the May elections.
Edu, who is running for vice mayor of Makati City, said his decision is final.
Like ex-wife, actress Vilma Santos (now wife of Rep. Ralph Recto) who is running for Mayor of Lipa City, Edu is not resorting to the usual trapo (traditional politics) style of mud-slinging and character assassination.
"I tell the people of Makati what I can do, and not what my opponents cannot do. I tell them about my achievements as an actor and as president of the Actors Guild. If I can stress the positive, why dwell on the negative?" Edu explained.
As president of the Kapisanan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (KAPP), Edu was able to get Social Security membership for guild members, initiate a tie-up with Life Line Emergency Services, generate scholarships and acquire housing benefits for members.
His closest rival for the post is Councilor Bong Daza, ex-husband of Miss Universe and actress Gloria Diaz.
