Manila, March 12, 1998 - The Nora Aunor-Vilma Santos rivalry of yesteryears which divided the country into staunch Noranians and Vilmanians has been revived on the campaign trail.
Speaker Jose de Venecia, sorely trailing in the surveys of presidential candidates, has hit upon a formula which LAKAS strategists could instantly nudge his popularity to the forefront.
Popular and multi-awarded movie star Vilma Santos, also known affectionately as "The Star For All Seasons" has agreed to join the LAKAS campaign caravan nationwide to attract votes for the LAKAS ticket headed by presidential candidate Jose De Venecia.
The presence of Vilma could also provide the park that would increase attendance at LAKAS rallies, which pale in comparison to Estrada's.
Nora Aunor, Vilma's popularity rival, is present in almost all the rallies of Estrada. She had pledged support for the LAMMP standard bearer long before the campaign began, and had temporarily shelved all movie and concert projects for the duration of the campaign period.
Vilma Santos, wife of Batangas Representative Ralph Recto, is LAKAS official candidate for mayor of Lipa City. Residents of Lipa assured Vilma that she need not campaign in the city to assure victory.
Vilma will be joined at all the rallies by LAKAS candidates and their wives: Paranaque Mayor Joey Marquez and wife Alma Moreno, comedian Anjo Yllana who is running for Paranaque Councilor, re-electionist Pampanga governor and action star Lito Lapid, Cavite Governor and box office star Bong Revilla.
