Quezon City, March 4, 1998 - Asia's Queen of Songs, Ms. Pilita Corrales, is being sued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue for refusing to show the government her company's books of accounts.
The BIR charged Pilita before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office for violating the Tax Code of 1986, after she allegedly refused to present to the tax bureau pertinent company records despite repeated notices sent to her.
The singer is president of Corrales and Associates Co. Inc., with offices at Twin Hill Street in New Manila. A subpoena was issued for Pilita after she failed to appear before the BIR two years ago, when she was requested to testify.
If proven guilty of the charges, Pilita may be jailed for from one year to not more than two years, or be fined from P5,000 to P10,000.
