ILOILO GOVT SUPPORTS BILLION-PESO TOURISM ESTATE
Iloilo City, Feb. 28, 1998 - The multi-billion peso tourism estate development project of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Retirement , Separation and Benefits System (AFP-RSBS) has just been endorsed by two city council resolutions, strengthening its chances of securing an environmental compliance certificate from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
The project, Presidio Royale, sits on a 175-hectare multi-use area, occupying portions of two towns: Jaro and Pavia. Plans include dredging of the Jaro River, which separates the Jaro and Pavia portions of the project. A bridge will be built over the river.
Presidio Royale is seen by the Iloilo City government as a key element in developing the city as a tourism and convention center.
Several hotels and tourism estates have been completed or are being developed in Iloilo. The hotel chain Days Hotel has just opened in Iloilo City. Sarabia Manor Hotel is upgrading its convention and hotel facilities.
One of the main attractions of Presidio Royale is an 18-hole, par-72 all-weather golf course.
