PALAWAN WILDLIFE SANCTUARY EXPANSION SET
Puerto Princesa City, Feb. 27, 1998 - The territories of the St. Paul Subterranean National Park will be expanded in the next few months to protect the delicate breeding and spawning grounds in the area.
The park, which is considered a national heritage site, is frequented by local and foreign visitors who are lured by the pristine surroundings, endemic wildlife and the famous underground river.
Public hearings in seven barangays of Puerto Princesa City will begin after a biophysical resources assessment. The Park is being threatened by the rapid increase of migrants living at the foot of Mr. Bloomfield, causing severe ecological degradation.
The government has assured residents that all efforts will be undertaken to protect the wildlife and the eco-system, while at the same time caring for the needs of the human inhabitants of the area.
