HUNDRED ISLANDS FESTIVAL BEGINS
Alaminos, Pangasinan, Feb. 24, 1998 - A clean-up drive in the deep waters of the Hundred Islands National Park marked the opening of the week-long Hundred Islands Festival yesterday. Hundreds of local and foreign media divers and police personnel participated in the clean-up.
The Festival, with the theme "One Pangasinan: Hundred Years, Hundred Islands" is Pangasinan's contribution to the Philippine Centennial celebration.
The first three days of the festivities will include a skills olympics and trade fair, search for top agri-aqua products, drum and lyre competitions for elementary and high schools, exhibitions by the Philippine National Police Academy drum and bugle corps and a moro-moro.
The coronation of the Maiden of the Hundred Islands will be held on the evening of the fourth day, after a jet ski competition.
Highlighting the end of the festival will be a unique shell float and fluvial parade, sky diving competition and a concert of MTV Asia's best rock band, the Eraserheads.
President Ramos and Speaker Jose de Venecia, both sons of the province of Pangasinan, will be the guests of honor for the closing program.
