PATA MEETS IN MANILA NEXT MONTH
Manila, Feb. 20, 1998 - The damage wrought upon Southeast Asia's travel and tourism industry by last year's Indonesian forest fire smog will be a major focus when the Pacific Asia Travel Association holds its 47th annual conference in Manila from March 29 to April 2, 1998.
The event will be a multi-faceted marketing and communications initiative to encourage international travel to the Pacific region and Asia in general.
Joseph McInerney, new PATA chief, calls the initiative the "Action Plan" which is a series of short-term, tactical programs designed to assist PATA member destinations adversely affected by the continuing currency devaluation and the stock market upheaval in the region.
Initial elements of the plan include special emphasis on travel bargains and promotions offered by PATA members, tours for North American and European travel writers, and Communications seminars designed to help mid-level public relations employees improve their skills.
President Ramos will deliver the inaugural speech which will open the conference.
