CENTENNIAL EXPO SITE WORKED 'ROUND THE CLOCK
Clark Field, Feb. 19, 1998 - The Philippine National Centennial Exposition or Expo Pilipino '98 site has full crews working three shifts a day, with machines and men moving 24 hours daily, non-stop, to meet the April 30 opening date.
National Centennial Commission Chairman Salvador Laurel tasked an old Marcos hand at rush projects to finish the Expo on time. The project Manager of Expo Pilipino is Aber Canlas, who built the Folk Arts Theater and other projects of Imelda Marcos during the Marcos administration.
"Only the trimmings and landscaping will be left since the plants need some time to grow. But the basic Expo structures will be there," Laurel said.
Viewed from the top, the ring will look like a giant star-shaped Pampanga lantern. Laurel dismissed earlier reports that the site will not be finished on schedule.
